The plants and wildlife in the Amazon Rainforest are not the only things that are being threatened. Amazonian culture is being threatened as well. The Amazonians have lived in the Amazon for thousands of years, and are being threatened because outsiders want their land or what is beneath it.
The Amazonian people live in tribes, and most of these tribes live in villages by a river. They also grow their own vegetables. Some tribes have isolated themselves from the modern world entirely. One tribe was found growing all of the vegetables they would need, and hunting animals with spears for their meat. The Amazonian people tend to wear bright colors, and have paint on their faces and chests. They use sticks and feathers to decorate their faces. The traditional religion of the Amazonian people is Animism. Animists believe that there is no difference between the physical and spiritual world. They also believe that animal spirits are everywhere, both in living and inanimate objects. |
